Allis
Chalmers Tractor was incorporated in 1840. By 1914, Allis
Chalmers entered into the farm equipment business, becoming
known for
their bright orange colored farm tractors.
In 1919 Allis-Chalmers introduced a stylish tractor with a 15 to 30 horse power rating. Allis-Chalmers reclassified it in 1920 as the 18-30.
Later with the purchase of the Advance-Rumely Thresher Company in 1931, Allis Chalmers continued to expand its manufacturing capabilities to include tillage implements and harvesters.
The Allis-Chalmers Model U became famous as the first production farm tractor offered with low pressure rubber tires. This popular AC tractor was built from 1929 to 1952, with well over 20,000 units produced.
During the 1930s, Allis-Chalmers had a best-selling tractor in its Models U and UC, originally developed by A-C for a co-operative named the United Tractor and Equipment Company of Chicago, IIIinois. By the late 1930s, Allis-Chalmers had captured 13 percent of the American tractor market.
An A-C tractor is shown this photo. Very popular in their time, today they are considered valuable antique tractors.
Their inline gas or diesel engines are easy to work on and Allis Chalmers tractor parts are available for most models at reasonable prices.
